HONOUR THE LORD

Introduction
  • There were certain things God almighty in his wisdom has set in life for the lifting of mankind and one of them is HONOUR.
  • Here today we are talking or focusing on Honouring God.
  • Honouring God is key to lifting in Life.
  • Lifting in life answers to honouring God
  • To dishonour our God is to embrace shame in life or in whatever you

do.

  1. WHAT IS HONOUR?
  • Honour is simply high respect
  • It is great Esteem or
  • Regards with great respect
  • In the Bible Honour is a commandment by the Almighty God.
  1. In Exd 20:12 the Bible said "Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the lord thy God giveth thee"
  • Land talks of a dwelling place and inheritance
  • This is one of the ten commandment that God write with his hand and gave to Moses for all mankind.
  • The Bible says in Eph 6:2-3 that it is the first commandment with a promise.
  1. And that promise is a promise of long life
  2. You want to live long in life Honour the Lord
  3. Eph 6:3 says for it to be well with you, you must Honour the Lord.

Main Points
  1. SPECIFICALLY WHY MUST WE HONOUR THE LORD?
  2. God is Our Father
  3. In Mal 1:6 where we read the Bible stated "A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: If then i be a father, where is mine Honour? and if i be a master, where is my fear? saith the Lord of hosts unto you, O priests that despise my name and ye say, where in have we despised thy name"
  4. In Mt 6:9 Jesus began to teach how to pray by saying "In this manner, therefore pray Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name"
  5. So we must Honour God because he is a father and a true father indeed.
  6. We Honour God so that all his Promises that follows Honouring Him shall come to pass in our Lives.
  7. Eph 6:2-3 where we read makes us to understand that there is
  1. The promise of Long life
  2. The promise of being able to dwell in the land. Yhis means enjoying the benefits of the land you dwell comes by Honouring the Lord.
  3. Isa 1:19 says if you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land.
  4. There is the Promise of it being well with you. All round wellness will be your portion when you Honour the Lord.
  5. 1Sam 2:30 because of dishonouring God the promise of God to the house of Eli could not come to pass.
  6. Why must we Hnour the LORD? we must Honour the LORD in order not to enter into Shame.
  7. In 1Sam 2:30 the Bible said "And they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed"
  8. When the Prodigal Son in Lk 15:11-32 despised his father, he entered into shame but when he came to his senses and honoured his father, he entered into Honour.
  9. Nothing can be as shameful as eating with the pigs and if we refuse to Honour the Lord we are inviting shame.
  1. How do we Honour God?
  2. Through fear and reverance to God
  3. Prov 8:13 says "The fear of the Lord is to hate evil, pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do i hate" Prov 10:27 and Eph 6:2-3, Prov 14:27, Prov 19:23
  4. Through obedience you Honour the Lord.
  5. Look at what Pharaoh said in Exd 5:2 "And Pharaoh said, who is the Lord that i should obey (Honour) his voice to let israel go? I know not the Lord, neither will i let israel go".
  6. By disobedience he dishonoured God. So through obedience a man will Honour God.
  7. Isa 66:2 says "For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have

been, saith the Lord. But to this man will i look, even to bring that is

poor(Poor in heart) and of a contite spirit, and trembleth at my word"

  1. For God to look at you because you obey him is a great

Honour.

  1. A broken and a contrite heart the Lord will not despise. Psa 51:17
  1. 1Sam 15:22 says

"And Samuel said Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings

and sacrifices. As in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold to obey is

better than sacrifice. And to broken than the fat of rams"

  1. Sacrifices and offering should not come before obedience in

Honour of God. It is Like putting the Court before the Horsewhich will

take you nowhere in the wonder of Honour to God

  1. Through Worship of the Almighty God
  1. Nothing Honours God like bowing down and worshipping him.
  1. It is arrogance that makes a man to stand before his maker and

speak anyhow.

  1. In Psa 95:6 the Psalmist King David said

"O come, let us worship and bow down let us kneel before the Lord

our maker"

  1. You open your mouth in worship to Honour God
  1. A worship from the heart is what Honours God.
  1. In Mt 15:8 and Isa the Bible said

"This People draweth righ unto me with their mouth, and honoureth

me with then lips, But their heart is for from one"

  1. It is Hypocrites that removes their hearts when worshipping

God and God cannot honour them because they have not honoured

God.

  1. God has said they that Honour me i will honour. True worship

Honours God.

  1. WITH WHAT DO WE HONOUR GOD?
  2. You Honour God with Your Life
  3. The greatest Asset you have in this life is your life. And God want you to Honour him with the life he has given to you
  4. In Gen 2:7 says "And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and brethed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul"
  5. It is a great dishonour God when you keep your life back from him. It is also foolishness on your path. 1. So give your life to Christ Jesus today in repentance of your sins and accepting Jesus as your personal Lord and saviour
  6. In 1Cor 6:20 the Bible said "For ye are bought with the price, therefore glorify (Honour) God in your body, and in your spirit which are God's
  7. If you fail to honour God with your life, life itself will not Honour you.
  8. It is against natural law to dishonour your father and expect honour in life not to talk of God almighty, the father of fathers.
  9. Paul the Apostle commending the Macedonia Church in 2Cor 8:1-5 said "And this they did, not as we hoped but first gave their ownselves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God"
  10. So Honour the Lord first with your life.
  11. We must possess our vessel in Honour 1Thes 4:3-8
  12. Honour the Lord with your Substance and with the first Fruits of all Thine Increase Prov 3:9
  13. We must be generous giver when it comes to give to the Lord.
  14. Do your given as an Honour to the Lord and it shall not be difficult for you to release what you have.
  15. Your Tithe and Offering should be done with the motive of Honouring the Lord.
  16. When your Honour God with what you have he will increase you more and more.
  17. Psa 115:14 says "The Lord shall Increase you more and more you and your children".
  18. Honouring the Lord with your Substance commands generational blessings and increases.
  19. Therefore the Bible said that you should ensure you abound in this Kingdom and Covenant with your Substance and the first fruits of all thine increase.
  20. In Phil 1:9 Paul said "And this i pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all Judgement"
  21. Jn 3:16 says "For God so love the world that he gave his only begotten Son"
  22. Love and giving must go together in our lives as an Honour to God.
  23. We have to increase more and more in giving to God and the brethren.
  1. 1Thes 4:9-10. When you do this in consistantly you are Honouring the Lord
  2. The increase in the area of giving will also increase the Honour that God will bestow on you.
  3. Please note that increase begat increase.
  4. You Honour the Lord with your Kingdom Service
  5. The sons of Eli did not Honour God with their Service in the House of God and therefore the Lord brought them to shame.
  6. Our service in the House of God is a divine call and service and we must do it in Hnour to the Lord.
  7. In 1Cor 1:26-31 the Bible said "For ye see your calling, breathren how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble are of the world to confound the wise and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; and base things of the world and things which are dispised, hath God chosen ye and things which are not to bring to might thing that are: that no flesh should glory in his presence.
  8. Our Service in his Kingdom shoild be done as an Honour to the Lord (Him)
  9. How do i Honour God with my service
  1. Serving with Commitment/Quality
  2. Serving with Promptness/not Lateness
  3. Serving with Joy and Gladness
  4. Serving with Sacrifice/In season and Out season
  1. KEY CONSEQUENCE OF NOT HONOURING THE LORD. (I Just Gave You Three)
  1. Lack of Honour
  2. God said they that honour me i will Honour.
  3. Dishonour in life follow people who refused to honour God wether at the short run and Long run dishonour will catch up with them.
  4. Such a person will dwell with disrespect in life. You will just be wandering why people are not honouring you behave continued to disrespect you.
  5. It is because Honour is not following you to God.
  6. The Bible said whatsoever a man soweth that shall he reap. Please note that the harvest is usually big than the seed you sow.
  7. So sow Honour to God and you shall receive multiple Honour.
  1. Shame and Disgrace.
  2. If you fail to Honour God you wil enter into shame and public disgrace
  3. One thing youmust know is that God controls the future so Honour God now that your tomorrow might be wall Eph 6:2-3.
  4. Don't forget the Prodigal son in Lk he entered into shame and disgrace when he dishonoured and despised his father.
  5. You will Destroy the Manifestation of God in your Life now and attract Generational Curses.
  6. This we see in the case of Eli and his sons 1Sam 2:27-36
  7. You must not destroy your Now and the Future by dishonouring the Lord.
  1. KEY BENEFITS OF HONOURING THE LORD.
  2. Continous Vision and Revelation
  3. So Long as Eli was Honouring the Lord his vision was clear and he had revelation.
  4. But when him and his sons started dishonouring God he became blind and no more revelation
  5. Also we saw this is the Life of Samson, He became blind when he refused to Honour God with the Life and Power God gave him.
  6. But Samuel Honouring the Lord could see what Saul did even when he was not there. How? By the revelation of the Lord.
  7. Youe eyes of understanding will be great enhance when you continue to Honour the Lord.
  8. Wisdom, Honour and Riches shall be yours
  9. Again we must learn from the life of the prodigal son as he returned to Honour his father.
  10. Wisdom returned to him. The Bible said he came to his senses.
  11. He was celebrated in Honour as he bow and respected his father
  12. New apparell was put upon him this is Honour of the Father.
  13. He was made rich agin.
  14. The Bible speaking about wisdom in Prov 8:18 says Riches and Honour are with me, yea durable riches and righteousness.
  15. Riches and Honour are major products of Honouring the Lord.
  16. Longlife and Length of Days.
  17. Eph 6:2-3
  18. God bless you with Longlife when you Honour him so that you can continue to give him what he deserves which is Honour.
  19. In Psa 115:17 the Bible says "The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go doen into silence
  20. So anyone that Honours God, He keep them alive to continue to do so. CONCLUSION Anyone that humble himself and dwells in the secret place of the Most High is one that Honours the Lord and all the benefits of Psa 91 shall be his or her Porrtion:
  1. God shall be your refuge and fortresss
  2. God shall celiver you from all the wicked plans of the enemy.
  3. God shall cover you with his feathers
  4. God shall be a shield unto you
  5. God will ensure you are safe in all seasons
  6. No evil shall come near your dwelling
  7. You shall have angelic Assistance
  8. God shall keep you in all your ways
  9. You shall have outstanding victory in Life 10.No Plague or Sickness shall be your follows 11.God will set you on high above your fellows 12.God will Honour with Long life and show you his Salvation

Jesus came to:

  • Model Obedience and Submission to God.
  1. Jesus cared for the whole world. To save the world for sin
  2. He came to make us follow him
  3. Jesus came to make those who follow him a disciple.
  4. Our Prosperity is tied to our obedience to the great commission
  5. Jesus used Apprentiship System
  • Mt 28:16
  • Jesus said go into all the the whole and make Disciple of all nation
  • Jesus said i have all authority in Heaven and earth
  • As a minister you nned to be a disciple first. The young disciples

should make other disciples.

  1. There was 100 years of dark ages
  2. The Morovian movement had inbroken chain prayer for 100 years
  • They Belive everyone most be a missionary.

THEOLOGY OF MISSION

  1. Our God is a Missionary God
  2. God inhabit the heaven
  3. But God came as a missionary to the earth
  4. Jn 5:17- My Father worketh until now d. Konomia -Fellowship-Instruction-Rebuke-Partnership-Building the man to produce-Discipleship
  5. We are to bear the Image of God This is for all mankind in the whole world.
  6. Gen 2:22-23- God allowed Adam to call the woman name. This is allowing to exercise freewill.
  7. We must dhoose wisely to fulfill the call of God upon our Life.
  8. Gen 1:28
  1. God bless Man- As Jesus ascending he was blessing them. Blessing is empowerment
  1. By the enpowerment God then said be fruithful. Everything you do must produce what Fruitful.
  2. Soul Winning Front- Jn 15:16
  3. Jesus sought you, found you and Appointed you.
  4. Then God said Multiply. that is produce your type geneterial Sequence. Multiplication is discipleship
  5. Gen 18:18,19 He will command his to obey God
  6. Then he said full the earth with the people you have multiplied
  7. Don't be a man of God without disciple
  8. Fill=Replenish the earth.
  9. Then He said have dominion- Rulership and Caretakers of the earth.
  10. Mal 1:7, Hab 1:11

Every where man is found must be filled with the glory of God.

  1. God has a missionary Goal in making the earth. we who are his must also have mission goal.
  2. God did missionary research. Gen 1:1- survey and research
  3. To Plant Church you must survey
  4. Know the state of the harvest
  5. Know the state of your flock.
  6. We must do sustainability. God to man to keep amd dress the garden Long term plan.
  7. Plan for Succession Plan
  8. What is your Structure you are putting in place. Structure to raise the next generation.

WHAT NEED TO CHANGE IN THE WAY YOU ARE DOING MINISTRY OR THR WORK OF GOD TODAY 1. Moses, Abraham, Daniel all were missionaries.

  1. Gen 12:1
  1. God said to Abraham go out
  1. It is in going you are blessed
  1. A missionary at 75 years
  1. Some of us are getting tired but God said don't be tired even at

your Age now.

TYPES OF MISSIONARY

  1. Voluntary- eg Abraham
  1. Involuntary- Jonah, Daniel
  1. Abraham was the 1st born so when God said leave your fathers

house, he lost his 1st born inheritance. This is the cost he paid by

obeying God.

  1. Dan 1: - Daniel and his colleagues were carried into mission

against their will. But they made up their mind to do mission. Dan 1:8

Jesus Appointed Apostles to Mk

  1. Be with him
  1. That he might Send them
  1. To preach
  1. To Cast out demons
  • Jesus is not willing to send out anyone who has not beiing with him.
  • Discipleship preceeds Missions- This is to be with Jesus
  1. You need his life to be able to give life to others.
  • Acts 4:13, Acts 11:26

Fruits of Being with Jesus The Cost of being a missionary is the cost of being a disciple. Lk 9:23-24 Missions

  • Is the total Biblical assignment of the church of Jesus christ.
  • It is a comprehensive term: the upward inward and outward ministry
  • If you are not preparing your people to send them out you are failing - A missionary is a prepared disciple who God sends to the world with his resources to make disciples for the Kingdom
  • We as pastorsmust prepare our people
  • We must see mission as your responsibility
  • Mt 24:14- This Gospel of the kingdom is what you need to preach.

Basis of Missions

  1. God's universal Purpose Hab 2:14
  2. Christ mission on Earth Lk 9:10
  3. God's Mandate for the church.

Goal of Missions

  1. To present everyman an opportunity to learn about Christ- That people learn about Christ.
  2. To present God's free gift of Salvation to all people Rom 6:23, 10:13
  3. To bring hope christ preached with passion Rev 5:9
  4. To make disciple of all Nations. Mt 28:19
  5. To bring a closure to this age. Mt 24:14
  • Missions without Senders is a Mission Impossible Rom 10:14-15
  1. The Great Commision in the last command of our Lord Jesus christ. Mk 16:15, Lk 24:47, Jn 20:21, Acts 3:18

Why the Great Commission?

  • Because of sin. The fall of mankind from sinless innocence to sinfulness.
  • To breach in our relationship with God caused by sin 2Cor 5:18
  • 2Pet 3:9- God is willing that all should come to repentance
  • God is unwilling to let go sinners

Goal of the Great Commission

  • To save mankind from sin Rom 1:16
  • To Reverse the curse of sin Gen 2:16-17
  • To give eternal life to the perishing Jn3:6
  • To bless all men with salvation Gen 12:1-3, Acts 3:25-26
  • To bring many Sons to glory Heb 2:10-12

Great Commentals

  • Recognition- many christians do not know because they were not taught. - Hearing and Seeing the great need of the lost
  • Decisive Action-
  • Personal Responsibility what can i do, what must i do
  • There are Consequences - Ezk 3:17-19
  • Because we are fellow workers with God 2Cor 6:1
  • The Church is a nursery to raise the Youth strategy for mission
  • Specialized Training
  • Cross Cultural Communication skill
  • Knowledge of the Target People
  • Willingness to live among other people
  • Preparedness to stay right, the people are saved
  • Pioneer Spirit
  • Senders must be there
  • Mission Primarly Target unreach People's group- Through Survey.
  1. 4.7 Billion Non christian in the world
  2. 2.8 Billion have never heard.
  3. 16,800 ethnic groups in the world
  4. 7,000 ethnic groups have never heard
  5. 80 million are non christian
  6. 520 Tribes in Nigeria
  7. 81 Tribes unreached in Nigeria

  1. Churches must take Personal ownership of Missions

  1. Start with a Vision

  3. Where is the mission realised

Networking Pastors: Training in your Churches Visit to Mission Field- 1985-86

  • 118 communities in FCT
  • Jan 1992 Sola became Missionary
  • Invitation from Islamic Pagan community
  • The opportunity may not be forever - Nation- Each people group in their Language and culture
  1. Produce somebody like yourself in a Nation
  2. You cannot be a Localised Christian
  • When you go beyond your Limits you will find Challanges. But make up your mind you will go beyond the challenges
  • Even if all the doors and wonders are Locked you can come out.
  • Christ is unlimit therefore we are not Limited.
  • This must be in your mind. God can do the impossible.
  • Spirituality is needed when the work is great and Labourers are few.

God can do it.

  • Everytime you set out for Christ something want to stop you.
  • The greatest need of mission is not mission material but your

naturally.

  • What is not faith is not for the kingdom
  • Let your greatness be Known among Nations
  • First thing in Mission is intercession
  • Psa 67: Prayer for Missions
